- LEED Awareness: What does Green mean?
According to the USGBC, buildings account for 39 percent of the energy used in the United States, 71 percent of electricity and 39 percent of carbon dioxide emissions. The construction industry has a larger stake in reducing energy usage, efficiently managing water, and in providing human comfort than any other industry.
Program will provide a basic understanding of environmental issues. There will be an overview of the USGBC LEED Certification, its divisions, their Intent and Strategies. Program speakers will explain why construction firms have a vested interest; how they can communicate their willingness to follow the USGBC guidelines with owners, developers and architects, and promote Green Building Practices. This is an informational program only.

· Basic LEED Understanding: Outline of the USGBC LEED Program
A starting point for achieving Accredited Professional status.
California has already adopted a Green Building Code for all new construction. On July 18, 2008 The California Building Standard Code California Green Building Standards Code [PDF], was adopted by the California Commission and will go into effect on a voluntary basis this year. The code is expected to be mandatory. ASHRAE is currently testing a new compliance in Seattle, Washington which could be implemented nationwide in 2009. The LEED Certification program encompasses these changes in code. It goes beyond these changes and challenges contractors to perform in Innovative and Exemplary ways.
Learning LEED 2.2 (and LEED 3.0 after January 2009) prepares construction firms for the changes. Stay current, stay effective. The program will provide an in depth study of LEED-NC and LEED-EB prerequisites and credits. The program will provide the attendees with challenges to learn the fundamentals of the LEED program. Topics of discussion will be Design Synergies and the Challenges of Interconnectedness. Suggested prerequisite for LEED-NC and LEED-EB Certification.

Study sessions for LEED Accredited Professional status, Innovation & Design Process - Principal Design Team participant. These programs will provide an overview of the course exam. It will refresh and reinforce the information provided in the Basic LEED Understanding course. The program will introduce case studies; cover Credit Interpretation Rulings (CIRs), Documentation and completion of Submittal Templates. Program speakers will be USGBC Accredited Professionals.
